What is the CSP?
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy represents Britain's 49,000 chartered physiotherapists, physiotherapy students and assistants. We estimate that it covers approximately 95 per cent of all registered physiotherapists. The Society operates on a national, regional and local level, with a number of Branches and 12 Boards throughout the UK.
The Society performs three important roles for its members, those of professional body, educational body and independent trade union. (Legally, we are 'incorporated by Royal Charter' - being neither a company nor a charity).
The core services of the CSP are provided through six functions, although staff often work cross-organisationally as the services inter-relate.
Where is the CSP?
The Society has its headquarters in central London and regional offices in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, but it also has 12 Boards and a number of Branches across the country.
When was the CSP started?
In 1942 we adopted our present name, The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, although our forerunner was founded over 100 years ago, in 1894, by four nurses. In recognition of the profession, HM Queen Mary became patron of the Society in 1916 and following in her footsteps Queen Elizabeth II is patron of the Society today.
