We are the UK's largest local authority, with a workforce in excess of 45,000 people, serving a population of 1.3 million. Our annual budget of £1.4 billion covers a huge range of services. This translates into a host of interesting roles and career paths awaiting those who want to work in a cutting edge public sector organisation. We are an "Excellent" 4-star authority, as judged by the Audit Commission.
Aims and objectives

Kent's Performance Assessment, How it worked
In December 2001 the Government announced its intention to carry out a Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) of all local authorities starting with county and single-tier councils. This was to be a first step towards reducing the regulation surrounding higher performing authorities and providing support or, in extreme cases, intervention in poorer ones. KCC was one of the ten "Pathfinder" authorities selected to work with the Audit Commission during the development of the methodology and the first results were published in December 2002.
KCC's Results - Excellent
KCC has been classified as one of the 22 "Excellent" authorities out of the total 150. This is a very important achievement, which reflects the current quality of service for the people of Kent delivered by KCC's staff directly and in partnership with other providers. It also, crucially, includes high marks for the way the authority is run and its potential to improve. A summary of the results is shown below.
