My client, a leading Central Government organisation, is looking for an experienced Editor, who can help them develop and maintain the high quality and impact of their reports. The Editor will work with, and report to, the Senior Editor. The Editor will help to ensure that the internal teams produce consistently high-quality reports with clear messages, logic and structure, and which are written in plain English. The post holder must be able to copy-edit, condense, adapt, summarise, rewrite and restructure the text of reports to have greater clarity, consistency and impact; as well as provide advice for staff.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Liaising directly with authors to ensure that their drafts meet the required criteria, including accuracy, style, content, structure, consistency and suitability for audience.
  • Ensuring that agreed schedules are met.
  • Copy-editing and proofreading drafts to ensure they are published without typographical and grammatical errors and adhere to house style, liaising with authors and other  staff, as required.
  • Ensuring that publications are produced in a style appropriate to the intended audience and in a way that maximises their impact.
  • Contributing to the organisations house style document, in consultation with the Senior Editor and Director General.
  • Maintaining awareness and knowledge of other publishing activity similar to the organisation and suggest how to develop the reports.

Key skills Required:

  • Excellent editorial skills.
  • Able to get to grips with complex financial or technical information and analysis quickly and can express complex information in plain English in a way that is easily understood.
  • Strong experience and demonstrable track record of editing published reports, preferably within a large professional services organisation.
  • Able to provide editorial control to ensure appropriate content, tone, brevity and consistency.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Word and Excel is essential.
  • Able to manage multiple projects, with competing priorities, simultaneously. The ability to work calmly under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Able to work quickly and accurately with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Able to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of a small team.
  • Able to use own initiative in solving problems, prioritising tasks and adding value to the work of colleagues.
  • Can engage with professional audit staff to gain their ‘buy in’, confidence and cooperation and resilient when challenged.
  • Strong oral communication skills to make suggestions and explain drafting points clearly and concisely

This position is a fixed term contract for 1 year with the chance for it to go permanant. If you are interested and meet the criteria then please contact Josh Blackman ASAP on 020 7747 4936.
