This video is an interview with the Director of Finance, Giles Kerr, who shares with us his thoughts on the 2009/10 financial results for the University.

The University

The University of Oxford is a leading teaching and research university with a worldwide reputation for excellence. Oxford has over 20,000 students, over 9,000 staff and an annual operating income exceeding £900 million, of which over £380 million is won competitively through externally-sponsored research grants and contracts.

The University’s academic departments and faculties are located within four academic divisions: Medical Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences and Mathematical, Physical & Life Sciences.

The Finance Division of the University is divided into a specialist team located within the central hub, and further divisional teams for each of the four divisional offices. You will be a member of the team which supports the Medical Sciences Division, embedded on a permanent basis in the Divisional Office based at the large John Radcliffe teaching Hospital.

The University uses Oracle Financials.

The Medical Sciences Division

Frequently ranked as one of the worlds leading institutions for medical research, the Medical Sciences Division includes a number of exciting departments acknowledged for their ground breaking contributions to work in their field. Recently, four departments within the Division were ranked highest in terms of quality of research by the Times Higher Further Education, with a further three achieving a second place ranking. The Division offers both undergraduate and graduate courses of an exceptional standard.

Alongside their focus on outstanding research and teaching facilities, the Division is also partnered with the NHS and helps to give excellent patient care through both training in current practices and the development of new treatments and technologies.
