The Whittington is a general acute NHS Trust providing services to the local population in North London, based on one site in N19.
The Trust spends approximately £50m on goods and services with over 1500 suppliers, and actively participates in projects with the London Procurement Programme. It is expected that Procurement will contribute at least £0.5m of cost improvement within the current year, with an increasing contribution expected over the next 3 years.
The Head of Procurement will be expected to develop a strategic team capable of delivering the above savings without compromising clinical effectiveness, together with other key strategy objectives:
- Increase stock turnover at ward level whilst maximising benefits from central storage facilities.
- Modernising procurement systems.
- Set realistic goals for sustainable procurement.
- Assist directorate managers in managing ongoing contracts.
- Increase the level of non-pay spend covered by professional procurement activity.
- Review the professional resources available to the Trust and develop a structure which is fit for purpose to deliver the strategy.
The key activities for the first three months will be to determine the appropriate resources, human and systems, which will deliver the strategy and provide a first class procurement service to its internal customers. You will be expected to produce a business case to develop all aspects of the service.
The Head of Procurement post reports to the Director of Facilities and is a member of the Facilities Management Team.
Strategic procurement resources at the Trust have been limited to date, and this is an opportunity to develop the team and systems in an organisation that is prepared to invest to generate positive outcomes.
