Dear Candidate

Thank you for your interest in People Services at Islington Council.

It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining us. If you are passionate about fairness and about delivering change, you couldn't be in a better place!

Islington is a borough of contrasts. It is a buzzing, thriving area at the centre of a major capital city, with more than enough jobs to employ every person of working age. Yet is it also a place of great inequality with high levels of poverty. Many of our residents face complex challenges - with housing, employment, offending and health - and so have repeated contact with our services and those of our partners. Tackling these issues is fundamental to improving the quality of people's lives, and it is essential to continue to meet their needs in the face of significant budget cuts.

So we are transforming the way we work and have ambitious plans for the future. We believe that prevention and early intervention are the key to building stronger and more resilient communities, and we are reviewing how we can best focus our resources to deliver improved outcomes.

Of course, the work of our People Services function is at the heart of delivering the transformations to the way we work, and as a service we are taking forward our own transformation programme. We are putting a new structure in place, creating new roles and adopting new ways of working so that we can more effectively deliver the services that are so important to the efficient working of the council. We are also in the process of changing the name of the function from Human Resources to become People Services.

Building on the good reputation that we have already developed, the focus of the function will be collaboration, strategic working and professionalism, so that we are driving the people agenda for the council. The creation of three senior roles is an important element of the changes we are implementing. I am looking for three dynamic, innovative and experienced HR professionals to join me to lead the function on this exciting journey, as well as a specialist in HR systems and data analysis to be a part of building our important business analytics capability. These roles are all vital to the success of our service and, therefore, of the council.

If you are committed to equality, inclusion and excellence you will be a great fit for Islington Council and for our new function. In return, you will have a generous benefits package, as well as a rare opportunity to make your mark and bring your ideas to life.

I hope you will continue to read on, to find out more and be inspired

If you have any questions about the roles then please do not hesitate to contact Raj Kumar on 0207 747 6817 for an informal discussion.
