Finance Manager

Our Central Government client is looking to recruit a Finance Manager for 6 months on an FTC 4 days per week.

The role of the Finance Manager is to lead the small finance team and deliver the finance function for the organisation, ensuring finances are on a sustainable and well managed basis enabling regional and national teams to deliver.

The Finance Manager is responsible for providing the strategic finance input into the Senior Leadership team, finance advice to the wider organisation and for the development and implementation of improvements to the overall finance function whether arising from external or internal factors which necessitate improvement or change.

Key responsibilities

  • Efficient management of the organisations budget and effective financial processes and delegations including responsibility for the statutory annual audit within existing regulations.
  • Deliver and maintain a system of robust financial controls, and policies that protects from fraud and error, and implementation of the organisation’s development programme financial functions.
  • Provide financial advice, and produce papers with appropriate risk analysis, opportunities, and performance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maximize the impact of overall financial resources and look for opportunities to scale efficiencies in the new Regional and National Teams enabling the organisation to deliver high quality financial service, which meets the need of internal/external stakeholders, and evolve new ways of working.
  • Build the Finance function to deliver exceptional finance services to the organisation with a clear focus on continuous improvement, problem solving and development, ensuring a high level of performance with a customer focus.
  • Drive and take ownership for developing new finance functions that help deliver what is best for the organisation and stakeholders.
  • Provide direct line management of one staff, and support their staff development through coaching, and mentoring to fulfil the Development Programme, with appropriate assignments and experiences to help realise their potential and support their long-term aspirations.
  • Ensuring that all transactional processes (invoices, income, expense claims, depreciation, and journals) are followed, delivered, and are sufficiently controlled and the finance recognition supported and reconciled
  • Liaising with the bank and our payroll and payment partners to ensure that bank transactions are made in line with timetables, are approved, reconciled, and correctly accounted for
  • Ensuring that the drawdown of grant in aid is in line with the conditions attached to grant in aid
  • Managing the month end process and closure of the ledgers including reconciliations
  • Responsible for ensuring that payroll is correct, accounted for in the right period and that payroll reconciliations are completed on time
  • Preparation of quarterly Financial Accounts (to include financial data in the Annual report)
  • Management of the internal and external audits including the attendance at all audit meetings, delivery of all audit sampling requirements, responding to audit questions and for meeting the overall timetable
  • All Statement of Financial Position reconciliations
