Welcome from Emily Boynton
I joined Kingston University as Executive Director of HR in November 2020, my background is in Local Government and the NHS. As an HR&OD professional I have always had a keen interested in learning and I found the transition to working in higher education to be a very positive experience. While joining any organisation remotely in a national lockdown had its challenges, I was overwhelmed by how friendly and supportive my colleagues have been over the last year.
As a University Kingston has been contributing to national research to deepen understanding of the impact of the global pandemic while also supporting our students to progress their learning and move forward with their lives. The University has roots going back over 120 years - our reputation and ranking as an institution is continuing to grow with faculties including Kingston School of Art, Science, Engineering and Computing; Health, Social Care and Education and the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences. Looking ahead we want to take what we have learnt from the pandemic and test it further with our agile working pilot, and innovative approaches to blended learning. The HR team will be moving to a new purpose-built agile working space at Penrhyn Road this autumn as part of the pilot designed to encourage collaborative and productive working with staff working in the dedicated workspace, across our five campuses or at home.
We anticipate we will remain a place-based institution, proud of our location in Kingston and welcoming to students from the UK and across the globe. We have a strong track record in supporting students from diverse backgrounds to achieve at Kingston, we now need to ensure the diversity of our staff group better reflects the diversity of our student population. Our HR structure is developing as we start to invest more in supporting career development, our pay and reward offer, apprenticeships, staff engagement and developing our values and behaviours. Health and wellbeing is a passion of mine and using expertise from across the University we have a series of initiatives to engage staff and students planned. If you are interested in working in an institution that is financially stable, intellectually curious, ambitious, inclusive, collaborative and creative then I hope you are inspired by the roles we have on offer.
