Salary: VSM

Location: Medway NHS Foundation Trust

Closing date: Midnight, Thursday 26th November

Medway Hospital provides acute services to a population of 500,000 people across Medway and Swale. Our hospital is the largest single hospital in Kent and was the first Trust in Kent to gain Foundation status. We have around 4,000 staff, an annual turnover of more than £215 million and 450,000 patient contacts a year.

The Trust has had a high profile and is facing some very significant challenges. Following the appointment of a new Chief Executive, Lesley Dwyer, the Trust has embarked on an ambitious transformation programme and developed a new management structure.

As part of this structure, two new posts have been created - Director of Operations (Coordinated Surgical Care Division) and Director of Operations (Women’s & Children’s Division).

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive as one of three divisional Directors of Operations in the Trust, the post holders will have full accountability for their divisions and will give leadership to clinical, operational and support staff within their areas.

The Surgery Division employs 665 staff with a budget of £70m and delivers services across Trauma & Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Head & Neck, Urology Surgery and Vascular Surgery.

The Women’s & Children’s Division employs 738 staff with a budget of £56m. It covers the spectrum of integrated community and acute care through to high risk care, provided to women, children, young people and families living in the Medway and Swale communities.

We are in a position where we know what our challenges are and have put plans in place to address these. We now need talented, experienced and ambitious Directors of Operations to help lead the change necessary for us to transform the performance of the Trust.

You’ll need strong experience of managing healthcare services at a senior level together with demonstrable success in leading change and performance improvement.

This could be an excellent opportunity for an experienced Divisional Director to develop their leadership further by taking on greater accountability and reporting directly to the Chief Executive - perhaps someone who sees this as a precursor to a full Board role in the future.

The Closing Date for applications will be midnight on Thursday 26th November.
