The National Gallery is one of the UK’s foremost museums and galleries, housing one of the finest collections of paintings in the world and attracting over 5 million visitors each year to London’s Trafalgar Square.

The Gallery runs a packed public programme including major exhibitions and a range of events and activities, including lectures, family workshops, and life drawing sessions. There are also programmes, information and training for a wide range of audiences, from schools to older people and curatorial professionals.

The Gallery has ambitious plans for the future and has recently defined five new strategic objectives. One of these is to invest more in its staff and to foster a culture of participation, communication and audience focus. To support this, the Gallery is now seeking a talented Head of Human Resources to join them at this important time.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing an HR strategy to support the achievement of key corporate objectives.
  • Creating a structure for the HR function to become a key enabler of corporate objectives.
  • Driving engagement initiatives to promote and foster positive relations with union representatives and staff.
  • Leading on organisational development initiatives to develop a culture of high performance across the Gallery.
  • Reviewing and developing systems and processes to support efficient and effective ways of working.
  • Negotiating and managing contracts for outsourced services to ensure value for money.

The appointed candidate will be professionally qualified and have a strong track record of success leading Human Resources functions and delivering cultural change. This is an exciting role for a senior leader who is looking to apply and develop their skills in a world-class centre of cultural learning.
