Assistant Director of Environment & Leisure ,to lead the at both an operational and strategic level with the array of different functions and responsibilities set out in the description of duties.

To assist Senior Managers in the overall management and development of relevant functions, taking a lead role on cross service initiatives and deputising for the Executive / Director/s as required. To act as the senior professional advisor for the functions set out in the description of duties ensuring services meet statutory and other national standards, delivering to the highest possible quality within the available resources. Make a positive contribution to the corporate management of the organisations and oversee revenue and capital budgets up to £60 million

Ensure the effective leadership, management, control and operation of a range of services including but not limited to:- 

  • Culture services, waste and Street Scene and leisure and Parks and be responsible for the preparation, performance and maintenance of relevant strategies, plans and procedures for the services.
  • Develop positive working relationships with relevant national and regional bodies and develop links and partnerships with other organisations as necessary to further the Council’s objectives.
  • To lead, direct, develop and motivate all staff within the directorate/s in the achievement and co-ordination of the policies, programmes and statutory obligations within the business plan/s and wider objectives of each administration.
  • Maintain an overview of the external income and funding opportunities available across the range of services and to ensure that arrangements are in place to take full advantage of such opportunities. Act as the nominated statutory officer as required for any of the services in the Directorate
