Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is one of the leading providers of mental health, learning disability and drug & alcohol services for people of all ages in Southern England. We deliver high quality care across our 140 services, employing 2,300 staff across 39 sites, serving a population of 1.3 million. We have been recognised as ‘Good’ by CQC and have a strong reputation for innovation and partnership working.

In the newly configured role of Chief Nursing Officer, you will report to the Chief Executive as a member of our Trust Board and lead a team to deliver excellent, high quality nursing care with a portfolio covering Quality Risk and Safety, Patient Experience, People’s Participation and Nursing Leadership.
We have an ambitious agenda for you. You’ll drive forwards the improvements necessary to take us from a CQC ‘Good’ to ‘Outstanding’ rating for the quality of our services working closely with clinical and operational Board colleagues. You’ll champion best practice, clinical leadership and innovation, encouraging a culture that supports staff to focus on great care and embrace leading edge thinking in the services they deliver.

You will develop a strong approach to nursing leadership, professional development and recruitment in order to expand our workforce and improve staff retention. In addition, you’ll manage our relationship with CQC and take the lead in planning before and after inspections. You will be our Caldicott Guardian and Responsible Person registered with the CQC, providing assurance to the Board and external stakeholders and holding colleagues to account for the safety and quality of our services.

Beyond that, we are looking for someone who is compassionate, can challenge conventional thinking, embrace change and has a genuine desire to continuously improve our services.

The successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse and have had significant leadership experience within a mental health setting. You should be a visible, inspiring role model and leader. Whilst it is important you bring senior management experience, this could be your first Board level post and we will also consider applications from outside the NHS.
